Key objectives of scheme:

The focus of the programme is to increase community learning and young people's knowledge and understanding of the impact, diversity and contemporary significance of conflict.People living in St Helens at the time of World War 2 were invited into 2 schools to share their experiences with children. Dan Hayward from Burtonwood Airbase along with the adults,educated the children about weapons, gas masks, air raids, Americans and toys. The sessions were filmed and made into a learning resource DVD for the St Helens Fronter educational website. The DVD and lesson plans are accessed by all schools throughout St Helens. All participants were given a copy of the DVD. One of the key objectives of the scheme were to hear first hand reflections about life from adults, who were children during world war two and to record this for future generations.

£9k funded by Museum Libraries Archives Council and Lottery, big lottery fund

The World of Glass, Allanson St Primary School, Holy Cross Primary School, City Learning Centre, Haydock, Burtonwood Airbase museum, The Derby & Joan at Moss Bank Mission.

Length of time scheme has been running:

Project started in September 2009 and the last session was in October.

To breakdown intergenerational barriers and to create a working link between sheltered schemes and schools. To reduce isolation of sheltered scheme residents

To educatethe children of St Helens.

To create a learning resource for future generations
