Sheltered Housing Workshop:
appraisal and sustainability of traditional sheltered housing
29th November 2007, Wakefield and District Housing, Castleford
10th December 2007, Samsung Wynyard Park, Tees Valley
Much has been written about unpopular and 'hard to let' sheltered housing, much less about how providers decide which schemes can be made fit for the future.
- Given the substantial investment required, how will you decide which schemes are sustainable and represent good investment, and which schemes need de-commissioning?
- How will you use this to develop your asset management strategies and business plans?
- Importantly, how best can you manage the process of change with Boards, staff and residents?
This very 'hands on' workshop gave delegates an understanding of one approach to options appraisal using a practical example of an appraisal tool developed by the independent consultancy, Peter Fletcher Associates.
As part of its service offering the NHC, in partnership with consultancy Peter Fletcher Associates, is looking to support organisations in meeting these challenges. At this stage we are gauging interest in the provision of a Sheltered Housing Options Appraisal Toolkit which includes a menu of options:-
- Online property survey of sheltered housing and extra care housing
- Dependency survey of resident profiles
- Reports and analysis - including options appraisal of single schemes and/or all sheltered stock
- Guidance on business planning - including investment, change of use, remodelling, working with boards and residents
Please send expressions of interest to sarah.taylor@northern-consortium.org.uk indicating which of the above areas you are interested in:-
