Homelessness Reviews
Due to the 2002 Homelessness Act, Local Authorities are required to undertake a homelessness review and homelessness strategy which documents the service and accommodation provision within their authority. This strategy should be monitored and reviewed regularly to ensure service improvement and client satisfaction.
The NHC's Team can assist in the collection data and other research methods to assist in this process. The section has written a number of homelessness reviews, and with this issue being increasingly important, will continue to give support to any homelessness research. The section has also been involved in rough sleepers work, including focus group work with young 'roofless' people, and other vulnerable groups who are at risk of becoming homeless in the future.
As the pressure to prevent homelessness continues information and evidence on those at risk, service delivery and the success of particular joint protocols is required.
The gathering of up-to-date figures and information is vital to the improvement of the services provided to these vulnerable groups; therefore Local Authorities must continue to assess the homelessness situation, service provision and any gaps in provision.
