The dominance of worklessness and labour
market disadvantages is very much established across social housing tenants,
housing providers have been committed and invaluable to tackling worklessness
across their communities and neighbourhoods.
In light of the coalition governments welfare reform programme, which
includes major reforms to the benefit system and welfare to work provision, it
is vital for housing providers to continue with addressing the issue of
worklessness and ensuring that there contribution is as effective as possible.
The work programme introduced by the
government in June 2011 is a payment for results welfare to work initiative, to
help people who are out of work and have been claiming out of work benefits for
long periods of time. As part of the
programme these individuals are referred to private, voluntary or public sector
organisations known as providers, many of who are experienced to provide the
appropriate advice, support, skills, training and experience to get these
individuals ready for work.
The Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) will be hosting
a roundtable engagement event inviting A4E one of the providers on the work
programme, who work across all three northern regions, this event will provide
members with the opportunity:
- To hear from A4E around
their experience of the work programme to date and engagement with the housing
sector and other partners
- To share your own
experience with your local provider to date
- To discuss what has worked
well, challenges and issues
- To share and hear of good
practice across the North
- To agree an approach going
forward
We hope that this event will provide an opportunity
to have an open dialogue to address issues, share good practice and agree a way
forward to ensure that members approach to tackling worklessness is as
effective as possible.
This half day event will be held on 28th
February in Sheffield (timings and venue to be confirmed), to register your
interest please email;
no later than Wednesday 6th February.
