Learning & Development – Free Member Roundtable

The housing sector continues to face ongoing cost pressures that are likely to result in reductions in resources and staff. Many organisations have already cut back on staff training and development programmes in response to these pressures. Organisations have lost key skills and expertise due to staff restructures, leaving teams to deliver better quality services with fewer resources. In order to effectively deal with these challenges, organisations need to be flexible and innovative in ensuring their staff have the right skills and training in place to deliver quality housing services.

Often it is the organisations that are facing the most pressures on their budgets that adopt the most innovative approaches to their learning and development. A report published by the Chartered Institute of Personal Development (CIPD) earlier this year concluded that in the current financial climate it is even more important to ensure that the right learning and development investments are made. It is also crucial that this development helps improve organisational performance – whether the organisation is growing or not.

The Northern Housing Consortium, in conjunction with New College Durham, would like to invite NHC members to a free focused session to explore:

• The current position of organisations in relation to their L&D
• The challenges and barriers to this
• The gaps around training and skills – and how New College Durham can fill these gaps
• Thoughts on a bespoke course for staff at all levels
• Opportunities for sharing good practice, resources and expertise.

Housing is a career that can make a real difference to people’s lives. As a sector it is vital that we continue to attract the best people with the right skills and ensure that learning and development opportunities are fit for purpose and meet the future needs.
